No tufting. No channels. No buttons, no trim, no mirror, no metal. The Tinta has less going on than any bed we make, and that is the entire point, because a colour this strong does not need help - it needs room. Two plain upholstered slabs with softly radiused corners, a television that rises out of the footboard on a remote, and one very large block of aubergine doing all the talking.

The lift is motorised and remote-controlled, built for screens up to 55 inches and 40kg, with the mechanism, power feed and cabling routed inside the frame. No bracket in the plasterboard, no cable down the wall, no stand in the corner.

Pattern and strong colour fight each other

This is the reason the Tinta looks the way it does. Channel tufting, chevrons and buttoning all work by making shadow, and shadow is what gives a neutral bed its interest. Put the same shadows into a saturated colour and you get two things competing for attention - the eye cannot decide whether it is looking at a shape or at a colour, and the result reads as loud rather than as rich.

Take the pattern away and the colour becomes the shape. The flat expanse holds the shade evenly across the whole headboard, the radiused corners stop it reading as a hard block, and the texture in the weave gives you depth without a single seam doing decorative work. It is the Milanese approach to colour, really: one saturated object in an otherwise quiet room, rather than a little of everything everywhere. Built on a hardwood frame and hand-finished in our Liversedge workshop, which matters more on a television bed than an ordinary one because a moving mechanism puts load through the footboard every day of its life.

A plain bed is also less forgiving to make than a tufted one. There are no channels to absorb a slightly uneven pull, so the fabric has to be worked flat and even across the full width of a super king headboard, and any waver shows immediately. The simplicity is real; the ease is not.

Choosing your colour

The Tinta is upholstered to order in any of our 15+ designer fabrics, and it is the frame we would point you to for any of the bolder ones - a forest green, a deep teal, a wine, or the aubergine shown here. It works just as well in a neutral, where it becomes the quietest bed in the range rather than the loudest.

Whichever way you go, order a free fabric swatch first, and do it more seriously than you would for any other bed on this site. A bed is the largest single block of colour most people ever put in a room, and a shade that looks considered on a screen can look completely different across two square metres of your own wall in your own light. Live with the swatch for a few days, in daylight and under a lamp, before you commit - that is exactly why we send them free.

The questions people actually ask

• Is a coloured bed a risk? Less than a coloured wall, oddly. A bed is one object you can change, whereas paint commits the whole room - and a strong bed in a neutral room is a far easier look to live with than the reverse. If you are hesitating, the same frame in a neutral is a genuinely good bed too.
• What size television fits? The lift takes screens up to 55 inches and 40kg. The television is not included - the mechanism, the mounting bracket and the internal cable routing are.
• Will a dark colour make a small room feel smaller? A dark headboard tends to recede rather than advance, so it matters less than people expect. What matters more is keeping the walls and the floor light, so the bed reads as one deliberate object rather than as the room closing in.
• How long does it take? Every Tinta is made to order in Liversedge, so please allow 15-30 business days from order to delivery.
• Where do you deliver? Free delivery to mainland UK addresses (England, Wales and mainland Scotland), kerbside as standard. White Glove delivery to your room of choice is available as a paid upgrade at checkout.

If the Tinta is close but not quite

If you want plain but with a little more happening, the Onda adds straight channels and a single rolled curve. The Riflesso and Luminosa are the opposite argument entirely - mirror and gold doing the work instead of colour - and the Aureo moves the lift into the headboard instead of the footboard. They sit together in the television bed collection.
