No mirror. No gold. No buttons. No curves. Take all of that away from a bed and what is left has nowhere to hide - just the proportion of the panel, the depth of the channels, and the character of the fabric. The Riposo is the quietest bed we make, and it is the hardest one to get right for exactly that reason. The television still rises out of the footboard on a remote, and still vanishes when you are finished with it.

The lift is motorised and remote-controlled, built for screens up to 55 inches and 40kg, with the mechanism, power feed and cabling routed inside the frame. No bracket in the plasterboard, no cable down the wall, no stand in the corner.

Restraint is a decision, not an absence

The channels do not run off the edges of the headboard. They sit inset inside a plain flat border, which is a small thing that changes everything: the tufted section reads as a panel deliberately placed, rather than as fabric that ran out of room. The footboard repeats it and closes with a flat squared top over the screen housing, so every line on this bed is either vertical or horizontal. Nothing is doing anything clever.

Riposo is the Italian word for rest - not recovery from the day, but the considered pause inside it, the thing worth doing properly. That is the whole brief for this bed, and it is why we did not add a trim to make it easier to sell. It is built on a hardwood frame and hand-finished in our Liversedge workshop, which matters more on a television bed than an ordinary one because a moving mechanism puts load through the footboard every day of its life.

The channel foam is stacked in vertical sections from the base up rather than stitched into a flat pad, so the ribbing still holds its shape under an elbow or a stack of pillows a year in. On a plain bed that is not a detail, it is the whole product: there is no pattern to distract from a headboard that has gone soft.

The natural oatmeal weave shown here is matte rather than lustrous, which is deliberate. A velvet on this frame would push it towards glamour; a flat textured weave keeps it in the territory of a made bed on a quiet morning, and it is the most forgiving finish in the range with children or a dog in the house.

The Riposo is upholstered to order in any of our 15+ designer fabrics. The natural oatmeal weave shown here is the version the design was drawn around, but this is the frame that changes character most with fabric - a deep velvet turns it into a different bed entirely, and a charcoal weave makes it read almost architectural. Order a free fabric swatch before you decide; on a plain bed the fabric is not one of the decisions, it is the decision, which is why we send swatches before you spend a penny.

• What size television fits? The lift takes screens up to 55 inches and 40kg. The television is not included - the mechanism, the mounting bracket and the internal cable routing are.
• How long does it take? Every Riposo is made to order in Liversedge, so please allow 15-30 business days from order to delivery.
• Where do you deliver? Free delivery to mainland UK addresses (England, Wales and mainland Scotland), kerbside as standard. White Glove delivery to your room of choice is available as a paid upgrade at checkout.
• Why is this one cheaper than the rest of the range? Because it takes less time to build. There is no metal inlay to mitre and set, no mirror to fit, no buttoning to pull by hand. The frame, the mechanism, the foam and the workshop are the same - you are simply not paying for decoration you did not want.
