A proscenium is the frame around a stage, and its only job is to make whatever stands inside it feel like an event. That is precisely what the slim black border does here: it runs around a wall-height panel of warm greige velvet, divided into broad soft columns, and it turns a very large piece of upholstery into a deliberate object rather than a padded wall. Inside the footboard, behind the same frame, a television rises on a remote and disappears when you are done with it.

The lift is motorised and remote-controlled, built for screens up to 55 inches and 40kg, with the mechanism, power feed and cabling routed inside the frame. No bracket in the plasterboard, no cable down the wall, no stand in the corner.

Why a tall headboard needs an edge

This is the practical reason the Proscenio exists rather than the poetic one. Take any headboard past a certain height and it stops reading as furniture. Without a defined edge, a wall-height upholstered panel starts to look like building work - a padded wall that happens to have a bed in front of it - which is a look some people want and many do not.

The border solves it in one move. It draws a hard line where the soft panel stops, so the bed keeps its outline against the wall and stays an object you chose rather than a surface you installed. It also gives the eye somewhere to finish, which is why the bed reads as calm despite its size.

The panels inside are deliberately broad - three wide columns rather than narrow ribbing - because fine channels across this much height turn into stripes, and stripes on a framed panel start to look like a headboard trying to do two things at once. Each is built as its own padded section with the foam stacked from the base up, then set inside the frame and hand-finished in our Liversedge workshop. The frame itself is a second fabric, cut and joined, which shows every millimetre of drift in its width - the reason this is one of the slower beds we build, on a hardwood frame that matters more on a television bed than an ordinary one because a moving mechanism puts load through the footboard every day of its life.

What makes the Proscenio work

  • Slim contrast border - a second fabric framing the panel, which keeps a wall-height headboard reading as furniture rather than as a padded wall
  • Wall-height panelled headboard - broad soft columns rather than narrow ribbing, because fine channels at this scale become stripes
  • Motorised footboard TV lift - remote-controlled, for screens up to 55 inches and 40kg, fully concealed when down
  • Matching framed footboard - the same border returns around the footboard with a soft rolled top, so both ends belong to one object
  • Hardwood internal frame and concealed cabling - the structural work that keeps a moving mechanism feeling solid and the room looking empty of wires

Choosing your fabrics

The Proscenio is upholstered to order in any of our 15+ designer fabrics, and like all our framed designs you are choosing two: the panel and the border. Warm greige inside black is shown here and is the sharpest pairing; a softer contrast - oatmeal inside chocolate, or greige inside charcoal - gives the same definition with far less drama, which suits a room that already has a lot going on. Order a free fabric swatch of both before you commit, and tell us the room if you would like a recommendation - two fabrics that each work alone do not automatically work beside each other, and a screen will not tell you which is which.

The questions people actually ask

  • Will it fit my ceiling? Measure floor to ceiling before ordering, and check for a picture rail, coving or a sloped ceiling on the headboard wall. Ask us for the exact headboard height in your chosen size first - we would far rather answer that than deliver something that does not fit.
  • Can I choose both fabrics? Yes. The panel and the border are specified separately, so you are not limited to the combination shown.
  • What size television fits? The lift takes screens up to 55 inches and 40kg. The television is not included - the mechanism, the mounting bracket and the internal cable routing are.
  • Does a headboard this size overwhelm a normal bedroom? Framed, far less than you would think. It is the unframed version that can read as overwhelming, because there is nothing telling your eye where the bed ends and the wall begins. What it does need is enough wall width that the frame is not touching a corner or a door architrave.
  • How long does it take? Every Proscenio is made to order in Liversedge, so please allow 15-30 business days from order to delivery.
  • Where do you deliver? Free delivery to mainland UK addresses (England, Wales and mainland Scotland), kerbside as standard. White Glove delivery to your room of choice is available as a paid upgrade at checkout.

If the Proscenio is close but not quite

The Luminosa is the same wall-height scale with a brushed gold inlay and warm light behind it instead of a fabric border, the Riflesso frames its panels in bevelled mirror, the Onda brings the headboard back to normal height and drops the frame entirely, and the Aureo moves the lift into the headboard instead of the footboard. They sit together in the television bed collection. For the rest of the room, the Luxe and Eleganza collections share the same fabric range, and the ottoman gas-lift beds are where to start if storage matters more than a hidden screen. A headboard this size is worth planning into a room rather than adding to one - our bedroom renovation guide covers the order to do things in.

Order your swatches, choose your two fabrics, and we will start cutting. If you would rather spread the cost, payment options are available at checkout.

  • Remove all packaging — cardboard and wrapping taken away and disposed of responsibly

Please measure your doorways, staircases and corridors (we’re happy to advise on dimensions), clear the delivery path, and make sure someone aged 18+ is home during the window.

If Something Goes Wrong

If we can’t complete a delivery, we’ll contact you straight away to reschedule and store your bed safely for up to 14 days at no charge. In the unlikely event of transit damage, tell the delivery team and we’ll arrange a repair or replacement.

Old Bed Removal

We can responsibly dispose of your old mattress and bed frame for a small additional fee — just email sales@belsognobeds.co.uk when you place your order.
