Every other bed in this range decorates one or two surfaces and leaves the rest plain. The Diamante does not. The deep-buttoned diamond grid runs across the headboard, over the footboard, along the side rails and down onto the base, so the whole thing reads as one solid upholstered volume rather than a headboard with a bed attached. Then the television rises out of the footboard on a remote, and goes back down when the film ends.

The lift is motorised and remote-controlled, built for screens up to 55 inches and 40kg, with the mechanism, power feed and cabling routed inside the frame. No bracket in the plasterboard, no cable down the wall, no stand in the corner.

Deep buttoning is the slow one

Channel tufting is set out in parallel lines, and a line is forgiving. A diamond grid is not. Every button is a corner of four diamonds at once, hand-pulled through the foam and tied off at the back, and the grid has to stay square across the full width of a super king headboard. Drift by a couple of millimetres at the third button and it is visible by the twentieth. There is no machine shortcut for this - it is the oldest technique in the workshop and it takes the longest, which is the honest reason this bed costs what it does. No metal, no mirror, no lighting: you are paying for hours.

The Chesterfield itself is thoroughly English, Victorian and unapologetic about it. The buttoning technique behind it - capitonné - was the same one dressing the boxes at La Scala in the same century, which is a neater piece of common ground between the two halves of this brand than we usually get. Ours is built and buttoned by hand in our Liversedge workshop, on a hardwood frame, which matters more on a television bed than an ordinary one because a moving mechanism puts load through the footboard every day of its life.

Charcoal velvet is the version shown here, and it is the right one for a pattern this busy. In a bright colour a full diamond grid becomes a lot of room to look at; in a deep, desaturated grey the buttoning reads as depth and shadow instead of as pattern, and the bed stays calm despite doing a great deal.

The Diamante is upholstered to order in any of our 15+ designer fabrics. Charcoal velvet is shown here and is the safest choice for a full grid, though the buttoning is genuinely striking in a deep emerald or a wine. Order a free fabric swatch before you commit - on a deep-buttoned bed the pile direction changes how every diamond catches light, so a flat online image tells you even less than usual. • What size television fits? The lift takes screens up to 55 inches and 40kg. The television is not included - the mechanism, the mounting bracket and the internal cable routing are.
• How long does it take? Every Diamante is made to order in Liversedge, so please allow 15-30 business days from order to delivery. Deep buttoning is the slowest work we do, so this one sits at the longer end of that window.
• Where do you deliver? Free delivery to mainland UK addresses (England, Wales and mainland Scotland), kerbside as standard. White Glove delivery to your room of choice is available as a paid upgrade at checkout.
• Does deep buttoning collect dust? More than a flat panel, less than its reputation. Dust settles in the button wells rather than across the surface, so a vacuum brush attachment once a month handles it. If you want the look with less maintenance, a channel-tufted headboard is the easier option.
